New benches have been unveiled at Market Hill in Castle Douglas.
The accessible benches and picnic tables have been made possible thanks to fundraising from Castle Douglas Rotary’s Forward Group.
They only started raising money in August but thanks to a combination of their own efforts, Castle Douglas Common Good Fund and contributions from Scotmid, the Co-op and Tesco, they have raised more than £4,000 to allow the benches to be put in place.
The aim was for the equipment to be installed by the end of March so they could be enjoyed when the good weather came along.
And the organisation has more plans for Market Hill.
The group’s Tracy Walker said: “The council assets team has given us pretty much a blank slate for the play park at Market Hill.
“We want to make it more accessible as the equipment is coming to end of its life.”
Castle Douglas and Glenkens councillor Pauline Drysdale said all three ward councillors backed the project and added: “We see the all inclusive benches as a great addition to Market Hill. We congratulate Rotary Forward for all their hard work and commitment in pulling this together.”
