A cyclathon challenge is being held to raise funds for Prostate Buddies Dumfries and Galloway.

Organised by Dumfries Devorgilla Rotary Club, with support from the Tesco Extra supermarket at Cuckoo Bridge, the ride will involve a static bike in store.

A group of cyclists from both the Devorgilla and Dumfries Rotary Clubs and 710 Cycling Club will take turns to try and pedal the equivalent 137 miles distance from Tesco Dumfries to the store’s Stranraer branch and back.

They hope to achieve this over 12 hours, starting at 7am on Saturday, April 1.

Dumfries Devorgilla president, Peter Atkinson, said: “We are very pleased to be teaming up with Prostate Buddies
D&G to assist in their valuable work of support and guidance.

“We very much hope the people of Dumfries will donate generously to our event.”

Donations can be made to the cyclathon on the day at Tesco and the cyclists are urging the public to go and support them and make a donation to the worthwhile cause.

Their 12-hour progress will be able to be followed on Facebook at www.facebook.com/DumfriesDevorgilla.

All the money raised will be donated to Prostate Buddies D&G and Prostate Scotland.

The Dumfries-based support group covers the whole of the region and is there to help men who have recently been diagnosed with or are concerned about prostate disease or cancer.

It is run entirely by volunteers who want to help other men come to terms with their diagnosis and to support them through what happens next in terms of treatment.

The group is assisted by Prostate Scotland but their service to this region could not be carried out without generous donations received.

More information on Prostate Buddies D&G can be found on their website at www.prostatebuddiesdandg.org.uk.

One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
