A new website aims to be a one-stop shop for information about the Glenkens.
The Glenkens Hub features details about events, local businesses and activities.
The need for the website – which can be found at www.glenkens.scot – was identified as a priority in the local community action plan and builds on the success of the Glenkens Gazette.
Funding from the Galloway Glens Scheme and Blackcraig Wind Farm Community Fund allowed the development work to take place.
The website was recently launched by the Glenkens Community and Art Trust (GCAT) at the CatStrand in New Galloway.
The project was overseen by the executive manager of the trust, Helen Keron, who said: “This is one of a number of really exciting projects that GCAT has developed as it leads on delivery of the Glenkens and District Community Action Plan.
“It’s fantastic to see one of the key priorities that the communities set out in 2020 coming to fruition in such an accessible and useful way. Many thanks are due to all who worked and volunteered on it – it’s been a real team effort.”
The website provides details of local news, events, businesses and services and also allows local companies and community groups to share information to a wider audience.
It has been developed by Gail Challis, who will also be looking after the website, and accompanies the Glenkens Gazette.
Editor Sarah Ade said: “With the Gazette being such a well-loved source of local news and information, we are really happy to be able to expand upon that with this online sister-publication.
“The bi-monthly nature of the gazette means there are always things that get missed, and the hub enables up-to-the-minute local news to be showcased, as well as information as and when it happens, which will be incredibly useful to people across the Glenkens and wider area.
“I’m also very excited that the hub will be home to a new searchable online Gazette Archive of all past issues, back to the very first – almost a quarter of a century of Glenkens news now at our fingertips.”
The project was administered by the Glenkens and District Trust and Foundation Scotland.
