Dumfries businesses left counting the cost of break-ins

Two Dumfries businesses have been left counting the cost of break-ins this week.

The Foot Health Clinic on Galloway Street and Happy Pets on Queensberry Street were both targeted between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Wendy Porter, owner of the clinic, said: “I received a phone call from a client that was passing by who told me the window and the door had been put through.
“I got here about 8.30am and discovered they’d robbed my shop and ransacked the reception.

“I’m just a bit gutted to be honest. It seems a lot of effort for very little reward.

“We have a beautician, Kelly McVie of Perfect Ten Nails and Beauty, upstairs and they’ve ransacked her drawers as well and left. We had £80 which was just a float because we don’t have a lot of cash because people pay by card these days.

“I’d left some money for the cleaner that comes in and they have taken that.”

Happy Pets was also broken into but no money was taken.

Louise Carroll, who owns the shop with her husband John, said: “I arrived at about 8.10am and noticed the window and the door had been smashed. My stomach dropped and I felt sick.

“Then I noticed the insert out of the till had been taken out and placed on the counter. There’s no money kept in the shop overnight ever.

“Some drawers beneath the till have been gone through. Nothing was taken it’s just very upsetting when something like that happens.

“Not only do we have to pay for the repairs, we had to close on Wednesday so we missed a day of trading. We’ve been here for 22 years and we have a lot of loyal customers but running the shop is hard work and it’s not fair that people can do this.

“The police have been excellent with us though, they were very thorough.”

Officers investigating the break-ins want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in Queensberry Street or Galloway Street at the time and are keen to trace two men.

A police statement said: “CCTV enquiries reveal two males were seen in the area of Queensberry Street, Dumfries around 3.15am on Wednesday, April 19. These males can only be described as about five foot eight to six foot in height. One male was dressed in dark clothing and the other was wearing white trousers and a tan jacket.

“If you heard or saw anything suspicious or have any CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist officers with their enquiries then please contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0604 of April 19.”
