Strike action at college

SUPPORT staff at Dumfries and Galloway College have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.

Members of the Unison union were balloted for strike action after almost 90 per cent of members across Scotland voted to reject the two per cent pay offer and the failure of College Management to deliver on the Scotland wide job evaluation project, in a recent consultative ballot.

At Dumfries and Galloway College, 62 per cent of the Unison’s members voted in the ballot, with 93 per cent voting in favour of industrial action.

Unison shop steward for Dumfries and Galloway College David Burns told the Annandale series: “Unison members at both of Dumfries and Galloway College’s campuses in Dumfries and Stranraer have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.

“The nature of this action is still to be decided, union shop stewards from across Scotland will be meeting this Friday to discuss our next course of action.”
