Gelston Primary pupils complete wider achievement programme

Children at Gelston Primary have recently completed a wider achievement programme.

Over four weeks the whole school took part in a series of activities, covering a variety of areas.

The pupils got to choose from pony care, embroidery, rugby, gardening, cooking or visiting Carlingwark Care Home.

The aim was to allow them to try something new, learn new skills, experience things outwith the usual day-to-day school activities and have fun. They all had a brilliant time and have been talking about what they got up to, sharing their learning and experiences with each other.

On returning to school they all reflected on their new skills and are working towards learning more new things next time.

Thanks go to the parents who gave up their time to help with the programme by transporting children and all those who came to help, including Mary Smith from Threave Nature Reserve; Justine Hunter-Brown from JHB Equestrian; Ross Cunningham from Stewartry active schools; Emma Howard from Galloway Stitch and Clare Fenwick, the school dinner lady who stayed late to help.

The school is always looking for willing volunteers from the wider community to help with the wider achievement programme.

Anyone who would like to help should call 01556 502415 or email [email protected]
